More than 30 men on Friday noon ran naked around Palma Hall in the University of the Philippines (UP) Diliman in Quezon City calling for environmental awareness and to protest against corruption in the country. The Oblation Run is an annual tradition in the UP community.
It is a yearly gathering where members of the Alpha Phi Omega Fraternity run wearing nothing, with mask-while holding a flower. This is the way they call the attention of public to voice out their stand about present social issues.
This year, the Oblation Run calls on government to take actions on climate change and ending government corruption.
In UP Manila, the fraternity stages Oblation Run for the rehabilitation of UP Visayas.
There was also an Oblation run held Wednesday at UP Los Baños.
It draws its name from the Oblation, a statue of a nude man located in every University of the Philippines (UP) campus, which symbolizes “a selfless offering of one’s self to the country” according to Wikipedia.
This is usually done on December 16 (Foundation day of APO), and serves as a protest to contemporary national issues.
Participants of the Oblation Run are male members of Alpha Phi Omega Fraternity numbering 24 on average.
In the previous years, it has called attention to several national issues including appeals for the ouster of former President Joseph Estrada, justice for the victims of the Maguindanao massacre and the 2010 Philippine Bar exam bombing. – See more at: http://www.coolbuster.net/2013/12/oblation-run-2013-raises-climate-change.html#sthash.XgMYRs8Z.dpuf
