State weather bureau PAGASA said, Bagyong Maring has intensified into a tropical storm as it continues to move in an Eastward direction,
At 4pm Sunday, August 18, TS Maring was spotted at 560 kilometers East of Itbayat, Batanes with maximum sustained winds of 65 kilometers per hour near the center and gustiness of up to 80 kph. It is forecast to move East Northeast at 7 kph.
Weather experts earlier said the estimated rainfall amount is from 5 to 15 millimeters per hour (moderate to heavy) within the 300-km diameter of the tropical storm.
Bagyong Maring will continue to enhance the Southwest Monsoon that will bring moderate to occasionally heavy rainshowers and thunderstorms over the western section of Luzon, PAGASA said.
Pagasa advised fishermen, specially those using small seacrafts, not to venture out over the seaboards of Northern and Central Luzon, and over the seaboard of Cavite, Mindoro Occidental, and over the western coast of Batangas due to the possible big waves generated by the enhance Southwest Monsoon.
No public storm warning signal has been raised.
